Immersive Technologies Lab 253

The Immersive Technologies Lab (ITL) serves as the front door for the extended reality (XR) ecosystem at Notre Dame.

Part of the Navari Family Center of Digital Scholarship (NFCDS) and located on the second floor of the Hesburgh Library, the lab is a centralized hub where all members of the Notre Dame community can learn about and explore immersive technologies, including virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and augmented reality (AR).

The ITL supports collaboration, idea development, and hands-on experimentation, while also providing access to XR equipment. All experience levels are welcome — whether you are new to XR or seeking larger collaborations with partners such as the Office of Digital Learning and Teaching and Learning Technologies.

What happens at the Lab?

Consultations — Have an idea? Want to know if something is suitable for extended reality, or just generally curious about the technology? Come visit with us to see what is possible.

Connections — As part of the campus XR Collective, we are your starting point for connecting with all immersive technology resources across campus. If we can’t help you with your idea, we will connect you with our partners who can.

Prototyping developmental work — We are happy to help you make your ideas come to life. We will walk you along your creative pathway from concept to troubleshooting to refining your idea for maximum impact.

Who can use the Lab?

Everyone! The lab is available to any member of the Notre Dame community, regardless of department affiliation or experience level. We are here to answer questions, brainstorm ideas, and explore how immersive technology can enhance any academic endeavor. The lab is open weekdays from 9:00am – 5:00pm or by appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.

What is the XR Collective?

For the last decade, there's been a variety of efforts on campus to explore and develop XR environments that advance faculty and student academic and research objectives. The XR Collective pools rich campus knowledge to expand and explore future learning experiences. Collectively, the partners build experiences that enrich teaching, learning, and research possibilities on and off campus.

XR Collective partners include: Hesburgh Libraries/NFCDS, Office of Digital Learning (Notre Dame Learning), Teaching and Learning Technologies (OIT), and ND Studios.
